JOB SUMMARY

Gifted Music School seeks an experienced and engaging voice instructor to join the Vocal Area Faculty at Gifted Music School in Salt Lake City, UT. The teaching artist would be expected to join a serious teaching team committed to raising, nurturing, and coaching students of all ages and backgrounds.

The Voice Instructor reports to the Preparatory Director. The instructor’s primary role is to provide applied private voice lessons on a weekly basis.

This is a part-time position paid at an hourly rate commensurate with experience.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach individual lessons to voice students. Provide each student a minimum of 38 lessons per school year (15 in the fall, 17 in the spring, and a minimum of 6 lessons in the summer), adhering to the school calendar.
  • Teach two (2) group classes per semester and one (1) studio recital each fall and spring semester.
  • During fall and spring semesters, teach GRIT students private voice lessons during school hours. 
  • Prepare students for and adjudicate at Jury Examinations and Studio Recital. Actively recruit and maintain a studio of voice students at Gifted Music School.
  • Assist students with recording sessions for auditions, competitions, etc.
  • Confer with parents and students to address problems or provide counseling on students’ musical development.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with students’ attendance, scheduling, and communications.
  • Communicate with parents, students, and GMS staff in a professional and timely manner
  • Report to the Preparatory Director and attend, assist, and contribute and attend school and departmental events (administrative meetings, juries, performances, etc.).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance or Music Education with vocal emphasis
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective teaching for beginning through advanced levels – minimum of 3 years experience 
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team 
  • Demonstrated English proficiency; Spanish or other language would be a strong asset. 
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above

 

PREFERENCES

  • Advanced degrees in music (MM, MMA, or DMA) with significant experience in teaching voice
  • An active teaching career and interest in making teaching activities at Gifted Music School a career priority 
  • Commitment to maintaining a reliable schedule and adhering to the school calendar 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to contribute to a high-performance team environment while being supportive of colleagues, staff, parents, and students 
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the studio and meeting the needs of a diverse population 
  • A strong understanding of the value of comprehensive music instruction
