Music Theory Faculty
Guided by the philosophy that a thorough understanding of the language and structure of music provides students with a much greater ability to interpret and appreciate the music that they are not only currently studying and performing, but that they will experience throughout their lives, the Gifted Music School offers its students comprehensive instruction in music theory. The School provides theory classes accommodating a wide range of students’ ages and skill levels.
Introductory music theory classes cover basic elements of music notation, including scales, keys, and simple intervals. Progressively advancing classes offer the introduction of chord structures, figured bass, and functional harmony, all the way through to four-part writing and harmonic and form analysis.
