Preparatory Chamber Music

The study of chamber music allows students to work together through focused activity and shared goals, giving each member a chance to develop listening skills, musical sensitivity, and group dynamics. Students will participate in a structured high-level chamber ensemble where they will be coached weekly by a member of our Gifted Music School faculty, as well as a weekly rehearsal. Chamber music develops valuable ensemble skills while fostering camaraderie and friendship. Groups are placed based on skill level and age.

Eligibility for Enrollment

Students Suzuki Book 3 level and above, or the equivalent, ages 8 through adults are welcome to apply. We eagerly accept all string, guitar, woodwind, and piano students! We also welcome the larger community; students need not be taking private lessons through Gifted Music School.

Audition Requirements

Please submit a video with: (1) one scale of choice and (2) one solo piece approximately five minutes in length. Video auditions are due by August 30, 2024 and should be submitted as unlisted YouTube videos using our online application form. We eagerly accept all students; auditions are just for placement purposes.

Have questions about the audition? Contact the Preparatory Chamber Coordinator, Katherine Baird, at kbaird@giftedmusicschool.org.

Preparatory Chamber Music at Gifted Music School

Students are permitted one (1) absence per semester. The consistent presence of all ensemble members is essential to everyone’s learning experience.
Students need to arrive with their own part prepared, with the help of the private instructor if necessary. Students also should be familiar with the other ensemble parts, studying the full score (provided along with individual part by the coach). It is essential that students attend consistently and work on their part on a regular basis, as well as listen to recordings (when available) of the piece.

I've taken two of my kids here for a Suzuki Toddler Mommy & Me Music class. They do an excellent job! Very talented and knowledgeable instructors, even for the toddler class! It was very beneficial for the kids.

My daughter has loved being apart of GMS. She's had amazing experiences because of it and has grown so much as a musician. We're so grateful she had this opportunity before college.

I have three daughters that have been in the Gifted Music School, two on flute and one with clarinet. The Gifted Music School has helped them each excel as musicians!

We feel lucky to have found GMS two years ago. At first, our kids were just in the children's choir, but we later added voice, violin, and piano lessons. All the teachers are top notch!
