Improvisation and Alternative Styles

Improvisation and Alternative styles is open to all bowed string instruments and will cover popular genres of music, primarily blues, jazz, rock, and metal. Each semester will introduce new repertoire and styles of music. Learn how to read and play chords and improvise melodies over top of them with a varied toolbox of techniques.

Course Details

Instructor(s): Livingston Cheney
Cost: $100 for GMS lesson students / $225 for all others
Meets: Tuesdays at 6pm (15 sessions)
Duration: 45 minutes
Participants: All ages and bowed instruments (Suzuki Book 3+)
Class Size Limit: 10 students
Location: In-Person, On Campus
Required Materials: Instrument, downloadable tuner and metronome, pencil, and voice. Music and worksheets will be provided by the instructor.
