Piano Masterclass

American Pianist Mary Anne Huntsman has established herself as one of the foremost young pianists on the international stage. As a Steinway Artist, Ms. Huntsman has performed throughout the world on some of the most exciting stages. In this masterclass, she will be teaching several GMS piano students and sharing her insight on their repertoire, piano technique and artistry. It will be a wonderful learning opportunity as well as a great chance to hear our students perform.

 

Mary Anne Huntsman Biography

One of the most exciting pianists of her generation, Mary Anne Huntsman has performed throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia. Recent highlights include solo engagements with the Nice Philharmonic under the baton of Philippe Auguin, Utah Symphony, concerts at the Xiamen University Music Center in Fujian, China, as well as intimate recitals at foreign embassies throughout Washington DC and Beijing. Ms. Huntsman gave her debut recital at Carnegie Hall this past January. She has performed for world dignitaries among them President of Singapore S.R. Nathan, former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former United States President Jimmy Carter, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and former Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kwan Yu. Ms. Huntsman is an alumnus of the Manhattan School of Music, the University of Utah, and Utah State University, and has studied piano with legendary mentors including Gary Amano, Philipp Kawin, Anna Balakerskaia, Eugene and Vera Watanabe, among others.

Strongly committed to the transformational impact of music in communities, Mary Anne has been actively involved in promoting the University of Utah’s Piano Outreach Program, working to empower underprivileged children through exposure to music and musical training. Ms. Huntsman has served on the teaching faculty of the Western Academy of Beijing and currently teaches at the Avenues School in NYC. Upcoming concerts include soloing with the China Philharmonic with Maestro LongYu, Artist at the Moab Music Festival, and Carnegie Hall in February 2015.

Another passion of Ms. Huntsman’s is politics. She interned at the White House in the Presidential Personnel Office in 2004, worked in Finance on Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign in 2008, and served on Jon Huntsman’s Presidential Campaign as a surrogate with her sisters as the jon2012girls. Recently, Ms. Huntsman worked for Malaria No More as the Senior Policy Advisor.
