Elements of Composition

This course is designed to help students explore music composition through examination of great works and development of creativity. Students will learn about melodic writing, application of theory and chord progressions, and various aspects of orchestration. This course will also contain a music technology component and students will need to obtain music notation software.

Cost: $375/semester
Meets: Wednesdays at 7pm (6 group seminars, 1 final recital)
6 online individual lessons scheduled independently
Duration: 60-minute seminars / 30-minute individual lessons
Participants: Ages 11+
Class Size Limit: 10 students
Location: In-Person, On Campus (Seminars) / Online (Lessons)
Required Materials: Computer or tablet, music notation software, DAW software, music staff paper, and pencil. Recommendations for free notation and DAW software will be provided by the instructor.

 

Class Schedule

The six 60-minute group seminars will take place on the following dates:

Wednesday, September 15, 2021 7:00 to 8:00pm MDT
Wednesday, October 6, 2021 7:00 to 8:00pm MDT
Wednesday, October 20, 2021 7:00 to 8:00pm MDT
Wednesday, November 3, 2021 7:00 to 8:00pm MDT
Wednesday, November 17, 2021 7:00 to 8:00pm MST

Six 30-minute private lessons will be scheduled individually with the Student Services team and instructor.

And a final end-of-term performance will take place on:
