Interim Conservatory Director

Violin Music Lessons

From: Office of the Dean

To our Gifted Music School community:

It gives me great pleasure to announce our friend and colleague, Professor Shenae Anderson, has been named the Interim Conservatory Director of Gifted Music School.

Professor Anderson joined the faculty at Gifted Music School last spring. In this short time she has served to teach violin private lessons and orchestra, Professor Anderson has become an integral member of the artistic team. An alumna of the Conservatory, Professor Anderson is uniquely positioned to lead the conservatory program forward while fulfilling the artistic vision of the school's founders.

In her role as Interim Director, Professor Anderson will collaborate with faculty in steering the Conservatory through the spring semester, while also making plans and strategizing for the upcoming academic year. Students, parents, and faculty may contact Professor Anderson directly at

Professor Anderson's appointment opens up exciting new artistic and educational possibilities for the Conservatory. I am very much looking forward to working with Professor Anderson in this important role.

American violinist Shenae Anderson began studying the violin at age three. She made her concerto debut with the Utah Symphony at age ten in Abravanel Hall and has since soloed with the orchestra three additional times. Anderson was the first place prizewinner of the Stradivarius International Violin Competition: Utah Division, semifinalist of the Munetsugu Angel International Violin Competition, and recipient of the Broadus Erle Prize from the Yale School of Music. After graduating from the Gifted Music School Conservatory, Anderson was admitted into the Juilliard School at age 16. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, Anderson then proceeded to earn a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music. She has studied at the Aspen Music Festival, Verbier Festival, and Music Academy of the West all on full scholarship where she worked under world-renowned conductors Valery Gergiev, Sir Simon Rattle, Larry Rachleff, and Gianandrea Noseda. She has participated in masterclasses with violin virtuosos James Ehnes, Andres Cardenes, and Sarah Chang and has performed alongside famed musicians Robert Diaz, Joseph Silverstein, and Gil Shaham. Previous teachers include Ani Kavafian, Masao Kawasaki, and Eugene Watanabe.
