Announcing New Dean

Gifted Music School alumnus, Justin Morgan, is stepping in as Dean of the school!

A bassist in the early years of Gifted Music School, Justin Morgan went on to pursue his studies that brought him all the way to New York, playing most recently with The Orchestra Now. Through the years, he has continually been a part of the school in vital ways. Now, we are pleased to announce his new position as Dean of the school!

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Justin Morgan began his studies on the double bass at age 9. His earliest teachers include Nicole McDermott and Laurie Stout-Letz of the Salt Lake Symphony and Jamie Allyn of the Utah Symphony. While in high school, Morgan trained at the full-scholarship Conservatory at Gifted Music School under the mentorship of Eugene Watanabe. In 2018, he earned a Bachelor of Music at the University of Utah under the tutelage of Utah Symphony Principal Bassist, David Yavornitzky. He then moved to New York where he received an Advanced Performance Studies Certificate from the Bard Conservatory of Music under the Metropolitan Opera's Associate Principal Bassist, Leigh Mesh. Equally passionate for his work offstage, Morgan was also an Executive Assistant at Gifted Music School.

"We are thrilled to welcome Justin Morgan to his new position as Dean of Gifted Music School. Having been an integral member of the executive team for the last three years, he has proven himself to be an inspirational, collaborative and visionary presence at Gifted Music School. Mr. Morgan's breadth of experience across all divisions of the school make him uniquely qualified to lead. He has worked closely with Eugene and I in both artistic and administrative roles and we are so impressed with his passion, dedication, and comprehensive understanding of music education. We count ourselves extremely fortunate to have such a capable individual as our new Dean and look very forward to his leadership!"
